To whitewash is a metaphor meaning to gloss over or cover up vices, crimes or scandals or to exonerate by means of a perfunctory investigation or through biased presentation of data.

a term commonly used in the context of graffiti, "to whitewash away the graffiti" but often able to see traces of of evidence after awhile.

IT’S TIME TO NOT ONLY START APPRECIATING, BUT TO START BELIEVING.

RCGNTN (pronounced re-cog-ni-tion) was started in August 2009 as a magazine dedicated to local talent.

With the lack of exposure given to Singaporeans passionate in their craft, there was a need to put the spotlight on these talented individuals to recognize what they can do, and to change the common misconception of local/ Asian talent.

We not only believe in exposure on these passionate individuals, but also to continue nurturing their talent through our networks.

This magazine is for those who chose not to give up; for those who choose to break out from the generic mold; for those who work or take (multiple) jobs on the side to keep pursuing their passion; for those who do it for the love not the money; for those who work hard and deserve a break; for those seeking inspiration; for those who need hope- this is for all of us.

With this, we plan to push Singapore to the world, for we all deserve some RCGNTN.

TITLE: CULTURES

Inspired by the numerous overseas art trips I went and culture insights with many foreign artists, curators, and friends. I discovered a common formula to sum up the general influences relating from the community, government and of course, the historical cultures.

FROM WITHIN TO EXTERIOR and VISE VERSA

A decent example like the culture of HIP-HOP origin from the States to the rest of the world, and countries like Singapore or Shanghai absorbing exterior influences; becoming a victim of globalization.

FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM and VISE VERSA

A huge capital like Beijing, draining from the strong Chinese propaganda and traditions influences to the people; unlike the city of Guangzhou, the people from the commoners inspiring the top level with improvements and demands.

This is a good opportunity for participants to gain exposure and build their portfolio as well as exchange ideas and knowledge about art and design with fellow artists.

SHAPESHIFTERS has since established itself as an event to watch for as we bring out the freshest and best from the local arts scene. It's time to check your daily time table, pack your text book and put on your white canvas shoes. Antz and Clogtwo from RSCLS decided to give back to community by producing a 15m by 3m mural at Coral Secondary school's art room. Antz and Clogtwo both painted giant owls and pigeons in rendition of their own style, accompanied with a mass pile up of art materials. The mural contains two owls which represent the wise teachings and knowledge that is passed down from teachers to students. And the pigeons represent the artistic freedom of a young's mind. Both artists took 4 days and total of 150 cans to complete the mural.

Marking our first collaboration with art collective RSCLS and the brand new dbl O Art Space, RCGNTN had the privilege to showcase the works of Tiffany Tan and Suhaimi Saadan with GOSSAMER- Transient Idylls of the Woolgatherers.

Transforming the gallery into a dreamscape of pastel colours and surreal imagery, the artists combined their contrasting styles to produce a utopia of geometric shapes and soft textures.

"Under the Radar is back again to cover The Blank Canvas 2, organised by The Cathay. A graffiti competition where blood gushes and bruises are made, as 10 graffiti writers battled it out to emerge champion.

Clogtwo and Antz were invited to judge and showcase during the event, and to go along with the program theme - Halloween, both writers dressed up in their best costume they could find on that day. Clogtwo as the holy nun and Antz as the China construction worker.

Congrats to all the writers, win or lose, you guys are a bunch of great local talents!"

Abstract:

We take Design seriously and it's a profession not a lot of people are willing to take up, especially here in Singapore.

The lack of understanding about Design got the layman confused with Art in turn people perceived designers as someone who only make things look pretty.

I managed to get a hold of these professional Designers from different Design Fields in Singapore sat down with them and discussed the role of Design in business, education, housing, and how it impacts our daily lives which a lot of people tend to overlook.

See Design through their eyes, and hopefully understand better what Design is all about.

THE NIXON ART MOSH, SINGAPORE SEPTEMBER 4, 2010

SINGAPORE, ASIA – Nixon is pleased to announce the next installation of The Nixon Art Mosh at The Gallery, Old School in Singapore on Saturday, September 4.

The Nixon Art Mosh is a global, rotating art installation featuring artwork from Nixon team riders, friends and family and is open for one night only. Previous Art Mosh stops have included installations in Paris, Vancouver, New York City, San Diego, London and Dublin. Singapore marks the first stop of The Art Mosh in South East Asia and will be followed up later in the month with a stopover in New York City on Friday, September 17.

Featured artists for The Art Mosh, Singapore will include works by: Craig Wetherby (USA), Nick Denambride (USA), Adeline Tan, Adrian Chan, Andy Yang, Brick, CK, Debra Raymond, Jamie Paul, Gerson Gilrandy, Paul Tan, pixelmunky, Mr.B, Harrison Love, Isabel Lofgren, Ivonne Adel – Bureos, Izzy As’ari, Kenny Chua, Kristal Melson, Mind_yer, Mojoko, Nataliette, Nazneen Aziz, Oats & Sparkle, Rick Treweek, Eeshaun, Race Krehel, Shawn Lim, Sheryo, Soh Jun Hao, Speak Cryptic, vectorsum, Winnie Goh, Zahir Sanosi and zxerokool.
